Research around thought patterns and if they’re correlated with (or differed by) the level of alexithymia.

We would like to invite you to take part in our research study on emotional consciousness and thought patterns.

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT THIS STUDY IS ABOUT?
We are a group of researchers who will be conducting this research study as a part of our studies. There are four people within our group, and we all study our master’s degrees in the field of Psychology.
Our research study will be concerned with exploring the impact of emotional life on the patterns of ongoing thoughts. Specifically, we aim to examine whether thought patterns (or specific dimension of the thought pattern) is correlated with (or differed by) the level of alexithymia.

WHAT WILL TAKING PART INVOLVE?
Taking part in this research study will involve coming to the lab and completing some visual decision tasks while using the computer. Participants will be asked to respond by pressing a button based on the pictures and letter strings presented on the computer screen. Also, participants will be asked to complete a few questionnaires to gather data connected to their thoughts and emotional life. The duration of the data collection will not exceed 60 minutes.

DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE PART?
Participation within this study is completely voluntary and everyone will have the right to refuse to continue at any point of the research for any or no reason.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS AND BENEFITS OF TAKING PART?
There are no foreseeable risks for participants, and we will take all necessary steps to protect all volunteers from any mental, physical or emotional damage and to guarantee that the research does not cause any distress, and if it does, will only pose an extremely low mental risk that is no more than experienced in everyday life.
By taking part in this study, participants can gain either study points or financial compensation. Furthermore, by participating in this research study a significant contribution to the field of Psychology research will be made.

WILL TAKING PART BE CONFIDENTIAL?
Data will be gathered in lines with ethical guidelines. All information will be stored in password protected computers and shared within our group of researchers only. Any personal details will be anonymized, and you will not be identified, and all information collected will remain strictly confidential.

HOW WILL INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE BE RECORDED, STORED AND PROTECTED?
The outcomes of the performance in the tasks as well as responses from questionnaires will be recorded and stored in password protected computers. All data will be anonymized and shared within our group of researchers only. The data we aim to gain will be used for the purpose of this research only. All data that supports published research findings or is of long-term value is retained for a minimum of 10 years from collection or creation of the data or publication of the research results (whichever is the latter).

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY?
The results of this data collection will be analyzed and will be used to inform master student(s)’ dissertation report as well as a number of oral/poster presentations. If appropriate, the analyzed data may also be used for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journal papers, conferences, and/or publish in the public domain.
